Right to Work in Jersey
In Jersey, an employer is required to endeavour to fill any vacancy with a local person (or one who has lived in the island for the past consecutive five years).
If unable to do so, the employer would need to apply for a licence to enable them to employ a person who has been in the island for less than five years. Some employers, such as members of the tourism and agricultural industries, are granted a ’blanket licence’ enabling them to employ such people. It is the vacancy that must be licensed, not the employee.
